When do my benefits expire?

The validity period of Smartum benefits varies depending on the type of benefit. Your benefits may be valid for:

  • The remainder of the current calendar year

  • 12 months from the date your employer ordered them

  • 15 months from the date your employer ordered them

Smartum benefits become available to employees once the employer has made the order and the employee has activated their benefits.

You can check the expiration date of your benefits in the Accounts view of the SmartumPay app.

What should I do if my benefits are about to expire?

Since employee benefits are tax-free for you, it’s always best to use them in full before they expire. Remember, only used benefits support your well-being.

If you don’t have time to use your benefits before they expire, you can extend their validity by three months with an OwnGiftcard.

Can you reinstate expired benefits?

It’s important to use your benefits before they expire. Once benefits have expired, we can no longer reinstate them.

What happens to my unused benefits if my employment ends?

  • Your employer has the right to discontinue your benefits as soon as your employment ends.

  • Regardless of the situation, it’s best to use your benefits in full while they are available, as they are tax-free for you.
  • If you don’t have time to use your benefits before your employment ends, you can use them to purchase an OwnGiftcard.
  • Since an OwnGiftcard is treated as a regular benefit transaction, it remains valid even after your employment ends.

What happens to my OwnWallet balance if my employer stops offering benefits?

If your employer uses OwnWallet to collect a deductible amount for employee benefits:

  • Only transfer enough money into OwnWallet to cover your required deductible.

  • Please note that money in OwnWallet is non-refundable, even if your employer stops offering benefits or your employment ends.

To avoid leftover funds in OwnWallet, make sure to use your benefits before they expire, especially if your employment is ending.
