Some phone models (especially Android) and certain banks' online banking credentials may occasionally cause login issues in the SmartumPay app. This article provides solutions to the most common problems.
Before proceeding, make sure you have the latest version of the SmartumPay app. You can check the version history in your phone’s app store.
Reinstall the SmartumPay app
On some phones, simply updating the app is not enough—you may need to reinstall it.
- Delete the SmartumPay app from your phone.
- Restart your phone to close any background applications.
- Download and reinstall the app from your phone’s app store.
- Log in using Mobile ID or online banking credentials.
- If login still fails, return to the background browser during authentication (see the next section).
Return to the background browser during authentication
On some phones, authentication may open in an in-app browser, while on others, it opens in an external browser. This can cause the login process to break. Here’s how to avoid the issue:
- Start logging into the SmartumPay app.
- When asked to select your bank, tap the three dots in the top right corner and choose "Open in Chrome" or your default browser (Safari, etc.).
- The login page will now open in your browser. Continue logging in using your online banking credentials or Mobile ID.
- This step is crucial! When your bank confirms "You have been authenticated", do not return to the SmartumPay app immediately. Instead:
- If using Nordea, return to the service where you started.
- If using OP, follow the message "Mobiiliavain-PIN OK, continue in another service" and go back to the background browser (not the SmartumPay app).
- Your browser should now redirect from the bank’s page to Smartum’s page, prompting you to return to the app. Tap "Continue" to complete the login.

Solutions for less common issues
- Check that your phone’s date and time settings are set to automatic. Manual settings may cause login issues.
- If possible, try logging in using another bank’s online banking credentials.
- Try logging in using Mozilla Firefox.
- Try logging in with online banking credentials and an authentication key list.
- Are you using Danske Bank for authentication? Try logging in with Mozilla Firefox.
Using a Huawei or Honor phone?
- Download Mozilla Firefox from your app store and set it as your default browser.
- To set Firefox as your default browser on Android, go to:
- Settings > Apps > Tap Mozilla Firefox > Set as default
- Try logging in again.
Use your benefits by paying in a browser
If the above solutions don’t work, you can still use your Smartum benefits by making a payment in your web browser.
How to pay in a browser:
- Open a browser and go to pay.smartum.fi.
Don't be confused—it’s the same page as the Smartum Venues Finder. - Enter the name of the service provider you want to pay and tap "Make a payment".
- Enter the amount in the designated field.
- Select "Pay with Smartum employee benefits" and tap "Continue to payment".
- You will be directed to strong authentication and the payment process. Once completed, you will receive a receipt, just like with SmartumPay payments.
